Our mission is to have Boys' Volleyball sanctioned in North Carolina. We are a group of dedicated volunteers working with schools every step of the way, making it as easy as possible to establish teams. We handle the heavy lifting of scheduling and plan everything from the first game through the State Championship. Collaborating with schools and coordinating funding with the Carolina Region of USA Volleyball, we abide by NCHSAA rules wherever possible to ensure consistency and fairness. Our goal is to make Boys' Volleyball accessible to all, fostering leadership, a sense of belonging, and the pride of representing their schools.
In the list below, *bolded schools are Private/NCISAA,
all others are NCHSAA schools.
We're growing rapidly! If your school isn't listed or you'd like more information about starting a team and funding available from Carolina Region of USA Volleyball, email us at NCboysHSvolleyball@gmail.com.

High school boys in North Carolina have been competing since 2016. Starting with just 4 teams, we anticipate over 140 public and private high schools (most with JV & Varsity) competing statewide this year!
Currently, boys' volleyball is a club sport in NC, following NCHSAA rules where possible. It’s easy to start a team at your school! We are a spring sport, running from mid-February through mid-May, with an option for an abbreviated season if you’re just getting started.
Funding is available through the Carolina Region, and we provide fundraising support. We help get your team started so you don't have to recreate the wheel.
Fill out this quick questionnaire, and we’ll contact you with more information!
Questions or comments? Reach out to us at NCBoysHSVolleyball@gmail.com.
We are working with a national organization called First Point Volleyball to spread the word about Boys High School Volleyball in NC. Please take a second to sign this petition so we can spread the word and show there is A LOT of interest to have teams for high school guys in NC!
Please support North Carolina Boys with the opportunity to play the fastest growing boys sport in the US and the second most played sport in the world!
Please reach us at ncboyshsvolleyball@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
First, gauge interest by talking to other students and creating an interest list—the first question from school leaders will be, "How many guys want to play?" Next, download the Fast Facts one-pager from our website to take with you when speaking to your athletic director, principal, or the girls' volleyball coach. Lastly, email the NCBVA at NCBoysHSVolleyball@gmail.com for guidance and resources. We are in our 9th season and have solutions for most challenges you'll encounter—there’s no need to re-create the wheel on your own.
We are a Spring Sport and follow the typical NCHSAA spring season schedule wherever possible. Tryouts mid-Feb, State Championship mid-May. However, there is an abbreviated season option for first year teams. That starts in late March/early April.
No, men's volleyballs are not required, but you may see them in competition. The home team decides which ball is used for the match. In college and travel club volleyball, men typically use the Molten FLISTATEC Volleyball, which features a textured surface designed for improved flight stability. This ball is the same size as the smoother balls used in women's volleyball.
No, we follow the same high school rules as the Girls, not USAV rules. Varsity matches are 3/5, JV matches are 2/3. The only difference is the net height: 7 feet, 11 5/8 inches for the guys.
We recommend having both an R1 (head referee) and R2 (down referee) for the fairest competition, but only an NCHSAA registered R1 is required for the Varsity match to help reduce costs. For JV matches, you can use volunteer referees, such as a girls' varsity player or a coach. The same applies to the R2 for Varsity matches. Ensure all referees remain fair and unbiased.
Until boys' volleyball is sanctioned, the NCBVA coordinates the schedule. Coaches need to complete the schedule prep document to assist in this process. We create conferences that mirror the NCHSAA structure as closely as possible while minimizing travel. Schedules are typically released at the end of January. Once the schedule is finalized, any changes must be arranged directly between coaches.
Both terms are correct. "Boys' volleyball" is commonly used in high school contexts and for search engine purposes. However, "men’s volleyball" reflects the terminology likely to be used by the NCHSAA when the sport is sanctioned and is often preferred for branding, team spirit wear, and among players. Both terms are interchangeable.
Definitely! We have guys from North Carolina playing in all college divisions and Men's Club Teams all over the US.
There are colleges at all levels adding Men's Volleyball to their school every year! With more scholarships available every year! And we have 9 Colleges in NC that have programs! Click the link below to see which schools offer men's volleyball.
